‘Funny Shorts, Three Plays By David Ives’, featuring ‘Time Flies’, ‘Degas C’est Moi’ and ‘Mystery at Twicknam Vicarage’.
Performance Venue: McAuley Studio, Hong Kong Arts Centre, Hong Kong.
Audition Dates:
- Saturday 11th March 2023, 1pm – 4pm.
- Sunday 12th March 2023, 11am – 2pm.
- Monday 13th March 2023, 7pm – 9pm.
Audition Venue: Spooky 3, 3D, On Tat Industrial Building, 3-5 Pat Tat Street, San Po Kong, Kowloon.
Video submissions are accepted if the above dates don’t work for you.
Hong Kong Players will return to the McAuley Theatre with 3 short plays by the American playwright, screenwriter and novelist David Ives. He is perhaps best know for his comic one-act plays and his full-length play ‘Venus in Fur’.
We are looking for passionate theatre enthusiasts to audition. No prior experience is needed, and anyone aged 18+ is welcome to apply.

Audition for one or more of the below...
Time Flies
Two lowly mayflies must get their romance on, quick. Will David Attenborough hinder or help?
Actors Required:
- 2 Mayflies.
- A David Attenborough impersonator.
Length: Approximately 15 minutes.
Degas C’est Moi
An out-of-work man called Ed suddenly decides that he’s Edgar Degas, the renowned French impressionist painter from the 1800’s. Where better to do this than in New York, a city full of inspiration for a painter like himself?
Actors Required:
- 1 ‘Edward Degas’.
- 5 supporting cast.
Length: Approximately 20 minutes.
Mystery at Twicknam Vicarage
There’s a body on the carpet and 3 outrageous suspects. Who killed Jeremy Thumpington Fffienes? Will Roger the Rector help Inspector Dexter find the too too terrible trooth?
Actors Required:
- 3 men.
- 2 women.
Please Note:
- Due to the adult themes in the plays, auditions are only available to those who are 18 years old or above.
- The genders and roles specified above are from the original scripts but can be adjusted depending on the available cast.
- Actors are encouraged to audition for many roles, and may be asked to perform in more than one comedy.
- The production will move into the theatre on the 8th of May 2023. Actors will be asked to attend dress and tech rehearsals.
- All actors are asked to commit to weekly rehearsals between late March and early May (more information to come).
